North Carolina Piedmont Lexington-Style Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups white vinegar
  • 10 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and stir until sugar dissolves.
  3. Remove from heat, and let stand until room temperature.
